In 2022, health costs rose by 2.5% compared with the previous year. This increase was smaller than the five year trend of +3.2%.

The Producer and Import Price Index rose in March 2024 by 0.1% compared with the previous month. In particular, petroleum products saw higher prices. Compared with March 2023, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products fell by 2.1%.

Bankruptcies rose for the third year running

In 2023, 15 447 bankruptcy proceedings opened. In the same period, financial losses due to bankruptcy returned to their long-term average. Meanwhile, the number of summons to pay reached a near-record level.

Sustained demographic growth in Switzerland in 2023

Switzerland's permanent resident population grew in 2023. On 31 December, it was just over 8 960 800. Immigration rose sharply. The declining fertility observed in 2022 persisted into 2023, and there was a reduction in the number of deaths in comparison with 2022.

The consumer price index (CPI) remained unchanged in March 2024 compared with the previous month at 107.1 points (December 2020 = 100). Inflation was +1.0% compared with the same month of the previous year.

The European statistics authority Eurostat has published a peer review report on its country examination of Switzerland in the area of public statistics.
